Week 3 Recap

Rob def. Nick (154.28-134.88)

This matchup featured 2 teams looking for their second win in a row. Nick didn’t have a shortage of highlights. Brock Purdy (31.5), Juwan Johnson (24.3), and Davante Adams (23.5) led the way. It was a recipe for victory, if not for a tragic ACL tear from his star running back De’Von Achane (1.9). He’ll have to hang the jersey in the back of the closet til next year. Rob gets breakout weeks from Michael Wilson (27.3) and Harold Fannin Jr. (24.7) for the first time this year. The true anchor of the team remains Jahmyr Gibbs (43.6)- 1st overall pick and top RB thus far, averaging almost 29 pts per game. Rob can visualize the cash prize as he stays firmly in contention.

Jen def. McKay (162.0-115.6)

In fantasy football, the fight to avoid last place is just as important as the playoff race. McKay is still waiting for his team to put it all together. His emphasis on TEs in the draft hasn’t yielded strong results, with yet another goose egg in the points column. His best player this week was Kalif Raymond (21.8), which is generally not how you beat a team that puts up 162 points. Lamar Jackson (21.04) and Jaylen Warren (24.0) gave Jen a solid foundation, but her WRs shouldered the load. Ja’Marr Chase (26.0) and Garrett Wilson (29.9) combined for nearly 56 points, with Wilson continuing to make the Jets look slightly less embarrassing than usual. Jen gets her first win of the season and McKay falls to 0-3. 🗣️Lemme get that Abercrombie discount.

Ashley def. Vince (101.4-96.5)

Vince came within five points of pulling off the upset against the early juggernaut that is Ashley’s squad. His lineup had just enough disappointing performances to keep him on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Bo Nix (24.54) had a respectable afternoon, Christian Watson (23.6) continued his recent hot streak, and then Saquon Barkley (9.8) and Xavier Worthy (4.2) left a lot to be desired. Not exactly the supporting cast you want when you’re trying to knock off an undefeated team. Ashley didn’t exactly light the world on fire either, but James Cook (23.0), Tee Higgins (21.8), and Trey McBride (17.1) did enough to get the job done. Patrick Mahomes (15.9) was relatively quiet, but did just enough to allow Ashley to survive the scare.

Gerhardt def. Kyle (124.0-120.5)

Another tight matchup played out between Kyle and Gerhardt. Kyle put together a respectable performance, but unfortunately fantasy football doesn’t award participation trophies. Javonte Williams (19.9) led the way, while Zay Flowers (16.6) and George Pickens (16.0) also put up solid numbers. Unfortunately, the other RBs didn’t do enough to keep pace. Gerhardt’s lineup wasn’t exactly perfect either, but when you have a stud like JSN, you can hide your flaws. Jaxon Smith-Njigba (39.16) absolutely exploded, while Josh Allen (18.06) and Josh Downs (13.5) did enough to keep the rest of the lineup afloat. Gerhardt escapes with a victory to keep pace with Ashley.

Jess def. Brent (162.1-102.8)

You’d think years of knowing each other would lead to some respect, maybe a little gamesmanship. Instead, Jess saw an opportunity to publicly embarrass Brent. His beloved Kenneth Walker III (22.3) couldn’t carry the team alone. Jess came out swinging with Bijan Robinson (39.7), Drake London (31.4), and Chris Olave (23.1) all putting up huge numbers. Travis Kelce (14.3) even got involved just to use Brent’s favorite team against him. Jess hangs a 60 point win on Brent, putting their office proximity under duress.

Owen def. Tommi Jo (124.0-103.8)

Tommi enters week 3 looking for a positive outcome. Respectable results from the usual suspects Derrick Henry (22.7) and Matthew Stafford (21.3) set her up for success. The Vikings DEF (19.0) also randomly decided to become one of the best in the league. Unfortunately, Hunter Henry (1.5), Chris Godwin Jr. (5.5), and Blake Corum (3.5) fell on their faces. Owen took advantage of the opening, led by George Kittle (27.4), CeeDee Lamb (23.2), and Tyler Shough (24.0). Deebo Samuel (15.8) turned backed the clock and added another solid performance. He’ll continue to climb the rankings like a free-solo specialist.

Jeremy def. Frank (95.9-65.4)

The match of the weak. This one is best summed up as “who can score fewer points?” If Frank only watched the 49ers game, he’d be filled with hope after a great Christian McCaffrey (23.0) output. Virtually everyone else decided to take the afternoon off. Nico Collins (inj.) was ruled out, Drake Maye (4.16) still has a Super Bowl hangover, and Stefon Diggs (7.7) was unable to provide much support either. Jeremy didn’t have much to cheer for, but the bar was low- he just needed each player to average 7.3 points. Jordan Love (22.9) led the way, with Rashee Rice (16.2) and Carnell Tate (12.4) chipping in. Jeremy gets the win despite leaving Sadiq’s 26.3 points on the bench, making things much closer than they needed to be.
